St. Pete Beach Bike Trail Across Pinellas Bayway Bridge
by Robert Neff
The St. Pete Bike Trail goes up and over the new Pinellas Bayway Bridge. The views across Boca Ciega Bay and of Gulfport, St Petersburg, St Pete Beach and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge are spectacular! With no drawbridge, the new Pinellas Bayway Bridge is taller and offers a panoramic and 360 degree view.
St Pete Beach Trail goes across Pinellas Bayway and has a shared bike and pedestrian paths . The path goes under each end of the bridge. For bridge walkers, the views redefine "Bridge Walking".
The paths are well maintained, provide a water-level view and are lit at night. The westbound side has no waking path, just a wide shoulder that bikes may safely use. Bikes going eastbound do not have to use the shared protected path. There is a wide shoulder to use.
