I had been wandering the Saturday Morning Market, tweeting the event and sampling while feeling the vibe of live music. By the time I reached the grandstand area, the music stopped. As the band was starting their break, I approached, offered to share their shade and struck up a conversation with the band, Urban Gypsies of Florida! Started in 1997, they are located in Gulport, Florida. Their music is described as "Smooth harmonies and primal rhythms that create contagious high-energy fun." Very personable folk and I asked if they were OK with me photographing them on break and while they played? Their response was "Of course!" Once they started the next set, the audience came alive. Out in the dance area, people left their chairs to dance whatever they felt! They just followed the rhythm! Kids were being introduced to the hula hoop and other stick games. People danced around the chalk art that bore their name. This had been created by Jacob Christiano, "Chalkstar" and he can be found on Myspace. "Urban Gypsies" was drawn into the pavement with several bright pastel colors. I used this as the banner for the photo essay, which also includes pictures of the band on break, jamming and some of their instruments. The Urban Gypsy Web site is http://www.urbangypsiesband.com.
